Mac Pro compatible video card?

Hello everyone.

I have Mac Pro w/ dual Quad Xeon processors.

I got it for free but came with no HDD, memory nor Video card.

For HDD, I have Seagate SATA 250GB.

For RAM, I have AData 240 pin Fully Buffered 2GB DDR2 x 2 sticks

For video, I have ATi Radeon HD2560 w/1GB memory for PCIe.

And there is NOTHING on dispaly.

(Fans run, front LED on, Boot sound, HDD spining)

Later I found Mac Pro uses different ROM from video card,

and regular video card might be able to use after driver loaded,

but I don't even have OS installed.

So anyone knows any (decent) video card which will work out of box for Mac PRo???

I appreciate your help in advance.|||Looking into this myself at the moment, though for a dual Dual Xeon that came with an NVidia GeForce 7300 GT. Here's what i've been able to gather so far.

ATI 1900 XT - was an upgrade option and still is, (might be old for an octo-core), but apparently not terribly impressive performance or heat dissipation for the money anyway

ATI HD 3870 - ATI100435928 - 512 MB - About $230 - latest and greatest, especially with 'core video' apps - same model for PC or Mac

ATI 2600 X - Stock on new machines - Less ZING than the others but significantly less money ~$130

NVidia GeForce 8800 GT - 512 MB (make sure you get the version for your 8 core machine; not the 4 core 2006 jobs) - About $280 - Faster for games (especially under windoze) than the ATI 3870, but only about the same with 'core video' apps, though Apple & NVidia are working on the drivers to remedy this... maybe

NVidia Quadro FX 4500 (or 5600 in your case) - superior juice, but only for folks with deep pockets since it will knock you back about $2600

You should be careful here. All other cards are iffy or incompatible. Some PC cards can be flashed for Mac but it's not for the faint of heart. Some cards will work great if you're running windoze under Boot Camp, but will give you nothing but a black screen under OS X.

Unfortunately, video card selection is one of the Mac user's biggest lingering gripes. I've been waiting months for the backward compatible 8800 GT to show, and now that it has, i'm researching more because i hadn't heard about this new PC+MAC ATI 3870 for only $230. Will definitely scream on an octo-core, but don't know about quad-core.
