If I bought a video card from newegg ( gtx 285) would it work in the mac pro?

The mac pro supports the gtx 285 video card. The mac edition on apples website is $449. If i got an evga (same brand as what apple offers) would it work in the mac pro? same clocks and specs ... its from what i can see the same exact card except the one on newegg doesnt say mac edition. Thanks for your help|||The Newegg 285 wouldn't work because Apple only programs their drivers for certain things and then locks out everything else.

This is one reason I don't like Apple, go try to put even a CD drive in >.<|||I'm going to say no. I suppose it could just be a case of finding the Mac drivers online, but I tend to believe that the card would have to have some kind of EFI chip on it to work with the Mac. I'm no expert at EFI or GPU architecture, but even though Macs are intel based now, they still use EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) instead of a BIOS and I think that would have to be addressed at the hardware level, not just with the drivers.

There may be a hack to make it work, but it'd be better just to find the Mac edition.

At least it is still made by EVGA.|||Probably not, apple made impossible to change anything without the apple store doing it, or you getting a new computer, which is the easiest way to go. Good luck, you probably don't need it that badly|||You paid for the Apple trough the nose and all you can do keep paying trough the Nose for any Parts or extras Apple and PC don't mix a lot.|||No. The Mac version has something extra on it for some stupid reason that makes it incompatible with the PC versions.
